BUILDING CONSERVATION
Marriott Grosvenor House Hotel 2009
Façade restoration; French limestone
• Removal of original unsightly repair
• Replacement with colour-matched conservation mortar
The client chose a stone repair compound by Stonehealth Limitedfor the repair to the façade of the hotel.
The depth of the individual repairs did not qualify for stone replacements: it was so insignificantt that a thin stone indent would be likely to fail during the coming winters. There was also a financial concern: with so many individual repairs, the cost of real stone indents would have been astronomical.
Access considerations were a real challenge, as a large glass canopy was suspended into the courtyard just below the façade in need of repair. The only access was via a cherry picker, which in turn made the repairs extremely difficult and painstakingly slow.
