MASONRY
Royal Horseguards Hotel Whitehall 2010
Reconstruction of existing period doorway
Located just behind Whitehall on the banks of the river Thames, this is one of London’s most prestigious addresses.
As part of a major refurbishment of the breakfast and dining rooms, the existing emergency exit was deemed too narrow.
The brief was to widen the existing doorway to allow diners access to the terrace. It was paramount to demonstrate sensitivity to the surrounding period architecture, particularly the mouldings; the original stonework was re-used as much as possible, ensuring that the present works did not draw attention to themselves as unsightly alterations.
The result compliments the original intention of the building in every sense.
