Highgate Cemetery, Otway Mausoleum 2012

This mausoleum in Highgate West Cemetery had fallen into a general state of disrepair through time, neglect and vandalism.
Project aims
-
Excavation of the external flat roof; the porch roof; the east cornice, and where requiredd, the masonry vault walls, in order to assess the condition of the mausoleum before treatment

Secure the structural stability of the mausoleum where this is at risk, eg the east elevation of the porch roof and the east cornice

Restore the exterior and interior of the mausoleum, reinstating 'lost' original features, such as the skylights
-
Restore the external masonry, retaining as much original material as possible

Clean the interior catacomb and the exterior stonework, removing damaging biological growth on the exterior such as moss and algae, while retaining desirable biological growth such as lichen
